Food Processing Facility - York
Structural framing members exhibited significant rusting and delamination of material at this food processing plant.
PEC performed a structural condition assessment of an existing steel framed structure supporting a hollowcore concrete plank floor system. Due to production area wash-down above, run-off on the external receiving dock above, and a humid processing area below the framing, visual and physical testing indicated significant loss of section properties of steel framing elements, and decreased structural loading capacity. PEC worked closely with the contractor and client to stabilize the building while developing a repair solution. The final design included encasement of the existing steel girders and columns with reinforced cast-in-place concrete, and reinforcement of existing wide flange columns with new steel tube columns.
